Women's 200 Medley Relay National Title Highlights Day One at NCAA Championships

The 200 Medley Relay team put an exclamation point on a strong first day of competition for the Emory University Women's Swimming & Diving team at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships as the group featuring junior Cindy Cheng and seniors Annelise Kowalsky, Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe and Marissa Bergh captured the national championship, posting a time of 1:40.83.

With the relay national title, the 20th in program history, the Eagles sit in first place with 137 team points. Williams College is in second place with 101 points following day one.

Kowalsky and Bergh added All-America honors for Emory on Wednesday in the 200 IM and 50 Free events. Kowalsky broke the school record in the 200 IM, finishing third overall in a time of 2:01.81 while Bergh came in fourth in the 50 Free at 23.79 (23.21 in prelims).

The Eagles saw two other All-America finishes on the evening as sophomore Fiona Muir finished second in the 50 Freestyle in a time of 22.74 while classmate Julia Durmer turned in a sixth place showing in the championship final of the 200 IM, registering a time of 2:03.32.

Five Eagles recorded Honorable Mention All-America finishes on Wednesday to round out day one. Freshman Maria Turcan in the 500 Freestyle (10th, 4:53.35), sophomore Ashley Daniels (9th, 2:03.16) and junior Ming Ong (10th, 2:03.62) in the 200 IM, and Sanchez-Aizcorbe (10th, 23.34) and junior Julia Wawer (13th, 23.65) in the 50 Freestyle.

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships continue on Thursday with the preliminaries beginning at 11:00 AM EST with the finals to follow at 7:00 PM EST. Day two events include 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay and the 400 Medley Relay.
