Emory Swimming & Diving Set for BSC, Arena Pro Swim Series Meets

The Emory University Swimming & Diving teams continue the dual meet portion of the 2016-17 season on Saturday as the Eagles head to Birmingham, Alabama to face Birmingham-Southern College. Additionally, Emory will be sending a small group of swimmers to Austin, Texas to compete over a three-day period from Friday, January 13th through Sunday, January 15th in the Arena Pro Swim Series.

Arena Pro Swim Series Preview

Nine swimmers in total are headed to Austin this weekend: six from the men’s team and three from the women. Slated to compete for the Eagles are senior Andrew Wilson (100 and 200 Breast), senior Christian Baker (200 Free, 400 Free, 1500 Free), junior Oliver Smith (50 Free, 100 Free), sophomore Thomas Gordon (200 Free, 400 Free, 1500 Free), sophomore Trey Kolleck (50 Free, 100 Free), freshman Sage Ono (50 Free, 100 Back, 200 Back), junior Cindy Cheng (400 Free, 100 Back, 200 Back), sophomore Fiona Muir (100 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 200 Back, 50 Free, 100 Back) and sophomore Ashley Daniels (100 Breast, 200 Breast).

The meet will take place at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas and will be a change of pace for the Eagles as all events will be swam in long-course meters as compared to the traditional NCAA meets which are swam in short-course yards.

All three days of competition will feature two sessions with preliminaries starting at 10:00 EST and finals beginning at 7:00 PM EST. Events on day one include the 100 Free, 200 Breast, 100 Fly and the 400 Free. A webcast of the meet will be available on usaswimming.org.

BSC Preview

Saturday’s dual meet against the Panthers will mark the fourth meeting in the all-time series dating back to 2013 with Eagles claiming all three previous meetings on both the men’s and women’s sides. Last season, the Emory women earned a 155-11 victory while the men swam to a 139-110 win at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center.

This season, the Eagles men’s and women’s teams are a perfect 3-0 and are fresh off victories over Division II Florida Southern this past weekend. BSC enters the weekend 1-0 on the men’s side and 0-1 for the women after a meet against Rhodes College with additional victories in a tri-meet against Berry and Loyola-New Orleans. The Panthers will host Sewanee and West Florida in a tri-meet on Friday before welcoming the Eagles.

Results and a recap of the competition at both meets will be posted to emoryathletics.com following the conclusion of action each day.
