Emory Swimming & Diving to Celebrate Senior Day on Saturday

The Emory University Swimming & Diving teams return to the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center for the final home meet of the 2016-17 season this Saturday with a tri-meet against Division II programs West Florida and Delta State. The meet is set to get underway at 11:00 AM.

Before the meet begins, the Eagles will recognize their 10 graduating seniors in Andrew Wilson, Christian Baker, Mitchell Cooper, Hayes Burdette-Sapp, Annelise Kowalsky, Marissa Bergh, Claire Liu, Kristine Rosenberger, Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe and Grace Swinnerton with a pre-meet ceremony.

The ceremony as well as the full meet will be streamed live on emoryathletics.com for a nominal fee of $7.00 to view in high quality. A standard quality of the stream will be available free of charge.

The Emory women are fresh off a 157-108 victory over Birmingham-Southern last weekend to improve to 4-0 in dual meets on the season. Freshman Caroline Olson paced the Eagles at the meet, collecting a pair of victories in the 50 Free (24.09) and 100 Free (53.22). The Eagles also saw three swimmers compete at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Austin over the weekend in junior Cindy Cheng and sophomores Ashley Daniels and Fiona Muir. Daniels had a strong showing in both Breaststroke events, placing 16th in the 100 and 22nd in the 200.

West Florida enters the meet 6-4 on the year including four straight victories over Florida Southern, Ouachita Baptist, Birmingham-Southern and Sewanee. Delta State is 3-1 in dual meets on the campaign with a 280-54 victory over Henderson State last weekend.

In the all-time series, the Eagles are 2-0 against both UWF and Delta State. Last season, Emory picked up 176-124 (West Florida) and 178-120 (DSU) decisions at the tri-meet taking place on the campus of West Florida.

For the Emory men’s team, Cooper led the Eagles with three event victories including a team-best two wins in the 100 Back (51.95) and the 200 Fly (1:58.11) as Emory bested Birmingham-Southern 155-107 to improve to 4-0 on the year. He added another first place finish in the 400 Free Relay with junior Aaron Schwartz and sophomores Carter Hardy and Matt Rogers (3:11.13). Schwartz and Hardy each added victories as well for Emory, winning the 50 Free (21.70) and 100 Free (49.05), respectively.

Away from NCAA competition, Wilson captured the 100 Breast title for the second consecutive year at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Austin. It was his second top-three finish at the meet, adding a third place showing earlier in the 200 Breast. Junior Oliver Smith had an impressive showing as well in Texas, advancing to the Championship Final in the 50 Free and finishing eighth overall. Baker, sophomores Thomas Gordon, Trey Kolleck and freshman Sage Ono were also in action in Austin.

Delta State on the men’s side come to Atlanta winners of two straight to climb to 4-2 in dual meets and are coming off a 189-71 victory over Henderson State last Saturday. Emory and the Statesmen have split the two previous meetings with the Eagles triumphing 163.5-116.5 in 2010 while Delta State posted a narrow victory last season, knocking off the Eagles 157-137 at West Florida.
