Emory Women Sit in Second Following Two Days at Denison Invitational

Through two days of competition, the Emory University women's swimming team stands in second place at the Denison Invitational with 1,270 points, trailing only host DU by 202 points.

Following strong showings on Thursday and Friday, the Eagles have recorded event wins in eight of the 11 swimming events contested and have totaled 27 NCAA B Cut times.

Senior Clio Hancock has been a two-time individual event winner at the meet, taking the top spot in both IM events. First, she turned in a time of 2:03.49 to win the 200 Thursday evening before recording a 4:21.99 to win the 400 on Friday.

Adding solo wins for the Eagles were senior Taylor Leone in the 50 Freestyle (23.32), senior Edie Bates in the 100 Breaststroke (1:03.62) and sophomore Megan Jungers in the 100 Backstroke (54.57).

Emory has added relay victories in three of the four relay events that have taken place across the two nights. On Thursday, the group of Leone, sophomore Sammie Kass and seniors Caroline Maki and Cailen Chinn won the 200 Freestyle Relay at 1:32.56 before Jungers, Leone, Maki and junior Anna Glowniak ended the evening with a win in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:43.25. Friday night saw the 200 Medley Relay quartet of Jungers, Bates, Leone and Maki take first with their mark of 1:41.33.

Friday's final session featured a top-four sweep by the Eagles in the 100 Breast, led by Bates and followed by senior Zoe Walker (2nd, 1:04.07), Glowniak (3rd, 1:04.50) and sophomore Fiona Arwood (4th, 1:04.55), a second-place finish by Leone in the 100 Fly (55.33 – 55.24 in prelims) and third place finish by junior Savannah Sowards in the 100 Backstroke (56.08).

The Denison Invitational concludes Saturday with six swimming events: 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Fly, 400 Freestyle Relay.
