Swimming & Diving Conclude Denison Invite with Third Place Finishes

The Denison Invitational concluded Saturday night for the Emory University swimming and diving teams with the Eagles finishing in the third position in both team competitions.

The Emory men racked up 1,647 points over the three-day meet with the women totaling 1,493.5 points. The host Big Red were deemed the team champions on the women's side with 2,090.5 points and for the men, the University of Indianapolis topped the team standings with 1,941 points.

The Eagles closed out their week in Granville, Ohio with 17 additional NCAA B Cuts and another standout performance by senior Jake Meyer who collected his second NCAA A Cut of the weekend.

Meyer highlighted the Eagles for the second night in a row as he took first place in the 200 Breaststroke with a blistering time of 1:55.02. His win was Emory's lone victory on day three while the team combined for 13 additional top-five showings.

For the men's team, freshman McKee Thorsen and junior Jeff Echols went back-to-back with second and third place efforts in the 200 Fly with Thorsen clocking in at 1:47.74 and Echols touching at 1:49.27. Another second place finish came in the form of sophomore Henri Bonnault who finished behind Meyer in the 200 Breaststroke with a mark of 1:59.11.

Five different Eagles placed inside the top-eight in the 200 Backstroke with sophomore Will Kohn leading the pack with a time of 1:46.67 as he finished fourth.

The Emory men concluded the meet with the 400 Freestyle Relay, taking third with a time of 2:59.96 posted by junior Alexander Pollack, senior Harrison Pire, freshman Hayden Tupper and sophomore Caden Bjornstad.

Over in the women's competition, the Eagles' best finish of the evening came in the final event when senior Penelope Helm and sophomores Isabel Huang, Penny Celtnieks and Jane Sanderson took second in the 400 Freestyle Relay at 3:25.37.

Helm led the Eagles across the five individual events as well on Saturday, recording a third place showing in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.74. Three additional top finishes came from junior Jada Chatoor in the 1,650 Freestyle (4th, 16:58.07), Sanderson in the 200 Backstroke (4th, 2:01.40) and senior Fiona Arwood in the 200 Breaststroke (4th, 2:18.14).

To go along with those top finishes, senior Megan Jungers was fifth in the 200 Backstroke at 2:01.96 as was freshman Katie Cohen in the 200 Breaststroke at 2:18.97.

The swimming & diving programs will now take a six-week hiatus before returning to action on January 20 with the Delta State/West Florida tri-meet.
