Emory Divers Open NCAA Regionals; Ren Watt Wins Women's 1-meter

Three Emory University divers were in action on Friday as the NCAA Regional got underway in San Antonio, Texas.

Sophomore Ren Watt and senior Tess Klugherz excelled representing the Emory women and senior Alex York finished in the top portion of the men's competition.

Watt paced the field of 28 divers in the women's field as she won the 1-meter event with a score of 441.70. She averaged an event-best 40.15 over her 11 rounds, with her best diver coming in the sixth round when she earned 48.00 while performing the Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike.

Klugherz finished in good standing after the first day of diving, taking third with a score of 408.55. She averaged 37.14 points per round and put forth her highest scoring dive in the final round.

For York, he placed eighth in the men's field of 26 divers as he scored 440.75 in the tightly contested 3-meter event.

The final day of regionals will get underway on Saturday with the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter. A total of 15 divers from the NCAA Region II will qualify for the NCAA Championships later this month, with eight women and seven men vying for the allocations.
