Following the team’s second-place finish at the conference
championships last weekend, seven members of the Emory University
women’s tennis team earned all-University Athletic
Association (UAA) honors, including four who were named to the
first team.
Emory junior Lindsay Reidenbach and senior
Sara Vrabec were named to the all-UAA first team
for their singles play, while Tshema Nash and
Sabra Rogers earned all-UAA first team honors for
doubles. The Eagles also placed singles players Zahra
Dawson and Jordan Wylie and the doubles
pairings of Dawson and Lorne McManigle, and Vrabec
and Wylie on the second team.
Reidenbach earned the honor for her work as the Eagles’ fifth
singles player. She won her only match played to completion,
defeating the University of Chicago’s Chrissy Hu 2-6, 7-5,
6-0. This is the second all-UAA honor for Reidenbach, who was
named to the all-UAA first team as the fourth singles player last
season.
Vrabec also won her only singles match played to completion,
defeating Chicago’s Tiffany Nguyen 6-2, 6-4, as Emory’s
sixth-singles player. With the victory, the senior remained
perfect with a 17-0 record in Emory’s dual matches, and
stands at 18-1 overall during the 2009-10 season. This is
Vrabec’s second all-UAA honor for her singles play, after she
was named to the first team in 2005 as Emory’s fifth singles
player.
Nash and Rogers won all three of their doubles matches during the
UAA Tournament, combining to outscore their opponents 24-5.
This is the second all-UAA honor for the two as a doubles team,
after Nash and Rogers earned the first team honor for their
performance at the 2008 UAA Championships. Nash also earned
second team honors for her doubles play in 2007.
Dawson played all three matches as Emory’s first singles
player, going 2-1 during the tournament, with her only loss coming
to the UAA Most Valuable Player. This is the second year in a
row the sophomore has been honored for her singles play by the UAA,
after earning first team recognition for her second singles play in
2009.
Wylie was 1-1 as Emory’s third singles player during the
tournament, including a 6-0, 6-1 win over her counterpart from the
University of Rochester. This is the first all-UAA honor for
the freshman.
Dawson and McManigle were a perfect 2-0 in doubles matches during
the tournament as Emory’s first doubles team. The
pairing earned an all-UAA first team honor as the Eagles’
second doubles team last season.
Vrabec and Wylie were 2-1 as Emory’s third doubles team
during the UAA Tournament, including 8-0 victories in each of the
first two matches of the weekend. Vrabec has previously
earned all-UAA honors for third doubles in 2008.
The Eagles, currently 17-5 this season, will finish their regular
season at 11:00 AM on May 2nd at home against Brenau
University.
