The Emory University women’s tennis team will continue its
bid for a National Championship on Tuesday, as the fourth-seeded
Eagles will face fifth-seeded Denison University in the
quarterfinals round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Tuesday’s match is slated for a 9:00 AM start at the
Battleground Athletic Complex in Fredericksburg, VA. The
winner of the quarterfinals match will face the winner of
Tuesday’s contest between top-seeded Amherst College and
Carnegie Mellon University in the semifinals round at 9:00 AM on
Wednesday.
Emory will enter the match with a 20-5 record, following its 5-0
wins over Methodist University and sixth-seeded Washington and Lee
University in the second and third rounds of the tournament.
Denison, currently 18-4 in 2010, defeated Wilkes College 5-0 in the
second round, and Johns Hopkins University 5-2 in the third round,
to advance to the quarterfinal round.
The two teams met earlier this season, with Emory coming away with
an 8-1 victory on February 27th. Emory is 6-1 all
time against Denison, including a 1-1 mark in NCAA Tournament
matches.
