The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked fourth in
Division III, received as double-dose of good news on Monday, as
the Eagles have not only been selected to participate in the NCAA
Division III Tournament, but will also host the first three rounds
of the tournament from Friday, May 14th – Sunday,
May 16th.
Emory, currently 18-5 this season, is the fourth-seeded team in the
national tournament, and will receive a first-round bye in the
tournament. The Eagles will face the winner of Friday’s
first round match between Methodist University (22-2) and Agnes
Scott College (11-7) on Saturday.
On the other side of the regional bracket, Transylvania University
(12-2) will face Vassar College (18-2) on Friday. The winner
of the match will take on Washington and Lee University (18-5), the
sixth overall seed in the national tournament, on Saturday.
The regional championship match will be held on Sunday, May
16th. The winner of the regional tournament will
advance to the NCAA Division III Team Championships with the eight
other regional winners. The quarterfinals of the tournament
will commence on May 25th in Fredericksburg, VA.
This marks the 26th-consecutive season that the Emory
women’s tennis team has earned a berth into the NCAA
Championship Tournament. The Eagles have won the National
Championship five times, most recently in 2006. Last year,
the Emory finished third in the nation.
