Emory Women’s Tennis Selected to Host the NCAA Tournament Regionals

The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked fourth in Division III, received as double-dose of good news on Monday, as the Eagles have not only been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Tournament, but will also host the first three rounds of the tournament from Friday, May 14th – Sunday, May 16th.

Emory, currently 18-5 this season, is the fourth-seeded team in the national tournament, and will receive a first-round bye in the tournament.  The Eagles will face the winner of Friday’s first round match between Methodist University (22-2) and Agnes Scott College (11-7) on Saturday.

On the other side of the regional bracket, Transylvania University (12-2) will face Vassar College (18-2) on Friday.  The winner of the match will take on Washington and Lee University (18-5), the sixth overall seed in the national tournament, on Saturday.

The regional championship match will be held on Sunday, May 16th.  The winner of the regional tournament will advance to the NCAA Division III Team Championships with the eight other regional winners.  The quarterfinals of the tournament will commence on May 25th in Fredericksburg, VA.

This marks the 26th-consecutive season that the Emory women’s tennis team has earned a berth into the NCAA Championship Tournament.  The Eagles have won the National Championship five times, most recently in 2006.  Last year, the Emory finished third in the nation.
