UAA Championship Website
The Emory University women’s tennis team will head to
Cleveland, OH this weekend in search of its
23rd-straight University Athletic Association (UAA)
Championship. The Eagles will enter the tournament as the
conference’s top-seeded team.
The Eagles quest for their 23rd-consecutive conference
championship will not be an easy one, as the UAA bracket will
feature four teams ranked in the top-15 nationally. Besides
Emory, the University of Chicago is currently ranked third,
Carnegie Mellon University is ranked 10th, and
Washington University is ranked 14th. However,
Emory is 2-0 this season against UAA opponents, having defeated the
University of Chicago, 6-3, on February 28th, and the
University of Rochester, 7-2, on March 10th.
Emory, ranked fourth among all NCAA Division III teams this season,
stands at 15-4 this season. The Eagles are 7-2 in matches
held on neutral sites this season, and are 13-2 against Division
III opponents this season. Last season, based on their
performance at the UAA Tournament, Emory’s Zahra
Dawson, Lorne McManigle and
Lindsay Reidenbach earned all-UAA first team
honors, while Tshema Nash and Daniela
Schechter were named to the second team.
Emory will enter the tournament as the top-seeded team, and will
face eighth-seeded New York University in the first round.
Other first-round matchups include second-seeded Chicago against
seventh-seeded Case Western Reserve, third-seeded Carnegie Mellon
against sixth-seeded Brandeis, and fourth-seeded Washington
University against fifth-seeded Rochester.
Emory’s match against NYU is slated for an 8:30 AM start on
Friday, April 16th. The Violets are 3-7 in 2010,
including a 1-1 mark in neutral matches.
Should Emory win, the Eagles will play the winner of the Washington
U.-Rochester match on Saturday, April 17th. The
UAA Championship and third-place matches will be held on Sunday,
April 18th.
