Emory's Dawson & McManigle Rally To Earn Spot In NCAA D-III Doubles Championship Match

Emory University’s Zahra Dawson and Lorne McManigle defeated Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane of Denison University in a three-set thriller Sunday afternoon to advance to the finals of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Doubles Tournament.

Dawson and McManigle, seeded second overall in the bracket, defeated the duo from Denison in come-from-behind fashion, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to move on to the title match that is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. tonight.  The win brought the pair’s doubles record to 22-12 on the season, including 8-2 in tournament matches.

The Emory tandem will face Kendra Higgins and Chrissy Hu of the University of Chicago.  The doubles teams have met twice this season, with Emory prevailing at the National Indoor Championships while the second meeting was left unfinished at the UAA Championships.

The NCAA Championships are being held at the Battleground Athletic Complex in Fredericksburg, VA.
