A week away from the 2010 University Athletic Association (UAA)
Tournament, the fourth-ranked Emory University women’s tennis
team will play at Berry College on Saturday and host Division I
Mercer College on Monday.
The Eagles, ranked fourth in Division III, will return to action
after a nearly two-week break. The Eagles stand at 14-4 on
the season, including marks of 4-1 at home, and 3-1 in true road
matches.
Berry College, which is currently transitioning to Division III
from the NAIA, is 13-0 this season, including a 3-0 mark in home
matches. Emory is 11-2 all time against Berry, including a
6-3 win in the last meeting between the two teams on April
11th, 2007 at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
Mercer, a Division I school which plays out of the Atlantic Sun
Conference, is currently 7-9 this season and will play two more
matches before facing the Eagles at 3:00 PM on Monday. The
Bears are 1-7 in road matches this year. The Eagles are 4-3
all time against Mercer, but suffered a 5-2 loss in the last
meeting on March 20th, 2008.
Monday’s match will also be ‘Senior Day’ for the
Eagles, as Emory will honor its three graduating senior players,
Tshema Nash, Sabra Rogers and
Sara Vrabec. All three have earned
all-America honors during their careers, and have helped the Eagles
to a third-place finish at the NCAA Tournament last season, three
total NCAA Tournament appearances and UAA Championships, and an
overall record of 66-28.
