The Emory University women’s tennis team ran its winning
streak to 10 matches in a row on Friday, as the second-ranked
Eagles defeated the 13th-ranked University of Mary
Washington 8-1 at the Fab 5 Tournament.
Facing the tournament’s host school, the Eagles battled to
wins in two of the three doubles matches, picking up wins from
Tshema Nash and Sabra Rogers in
the second doubles contest, and from Jordan Wylie
and Amanda Wikman in third doubles.
However, Emory was dominant in the singles matches, winning all six
for the eighth time in 16 matches this season. All six Emory
singles players earned straight-set victories, guiding the Eagles
to the victory.
In the sixth-singles match, senior Sara Vrabec
picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory, to remain undefeated in dual matches
this season. Vrabec has gone 13-0 during the spring season,
including a mark of 8-0 as the Eagles’ sixth-singles
player.
Emory improved to 14-2 overall with the victory, while Mary
Washington dropped to 6-6 with the loss. The Eagles are a
perfect 12-0 against Division III teams this season, including a
7-0 mark against nationally-ranked Division III opponents.
Emory will look to keep its winning streak alive on Saturday at
4:00 PM against sixth-ranked Washington and Lee University, in the
team’s second of three matches at the Fab 5 Tournament.
