For the second time this season, Emory University junior
Zahra Dawson was named the University Athletic
Association’s (UAA) Athlete of the Week for Women’s
Tennis, after winning each of her doubles and singles matches for
the top-ranked Eagles during the week.
During a 9-0 team win over Berry College, Dawson teamed with Taylor
Brandt to shutout her counterparts in the third doubles match, 8-0,
while winning the second singles match in straight sets, 6-2,
6-2. Against the ninth-ranked NCAA Division II team, Clayton
State University, Dawson and Brandt claimed an 8-2 win in third
doubles, followed by a 6-0, 6-2 win in third singles from the
junior.
Dawson improved to 22-8 in singles play to lead all Eagles in
victories this season, and has won 11-straight (and 16 of her last
17) doubles matches to improve to 24-4 overall in doubles
play.
Her performance has helped the Eagles to a 15-4 overall record in
2011.
