Emory University senior Lorne McManigle was
selected as the University Athletic Association’s (UAA)
Athlete of the Week, after her performance during the third-ranked
Eagles’ 9-0 win over the University of the South (Sewanee)
last Tuesday.
McManigle earned a straight-set, 6-4, 6-3 win over the Atlantic
South Region’s 15th-ranked player in the first
singles match. She also teamed with Gabrielle Clark to upset
the region’s second-ranked doubles pairing, 8-1, in the first
doubles contest.
McManigle, ranked 11th in the Atlantic South Region in
singles play and fifth in doubles, raised her record to 16-9 in
singles matches and to 22-7 in doubles action. The 2009 NCAA
Division III singles champion and 2010 doubles runner-up has led
the Eagles to a 16-4 overall record this season.
This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor for McManigle this
season, and the fourth time she has earned it throughout her
career. McManigle becomes the fourth different Eagle to win
the honor this season, as a member of the Emory women’s
tennis team has been named the UAA’s Athlete of the Week in
each of the last five weeks.
The following members of the Emory women’s tennis team have
