Emory University senior Lorne McManigle was
named the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) Athlete of
the Week for Women’s Tennis, after helping lead the
third-ranked Eagles to second and third round victories during the
NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament.
McManigle helped the Eagles advance to the quarterfinals
of the NCAA Division III Championships with 5-0 wins over Agnes
Scott College and the 18th-ranked University of the
South. In the Eagles’ second round win over Agnes
Scott, she teamed with Gabrielle Clark to win the first doubles
match 8-0. In the third round against host school Sewanee,
the duo earned a 8-4 win over the Atlantic South Region’s
fifth-ranked pairing in the first singles match, and McManigle
later claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third singles match.
The senior, ranked 10th in the region in singles
play, improved to 19-9 on the season in singles matches. She
is also ranked fourth in the region in doubles play, and holds a
26-8 record in doubles matches this season. It marks the
second time this season that McManigle has been named the UAA
Athlete of the Week, and the fifth time of her career.
McManigle has helped lead the Eagles to a 21-4 overall record in
2011, and to their 21st NCAA quarterfinal
appearance. Emory will return to action on Tuesday, May
24th in the quarterfinal match of the NCAA Championships
against eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University in Claremont,
CA.
