Emory's Clark and McManigle Finish Second at NCAA Doubles Championships

Emory University freshman Gabrielle Clark and senior Lorne McManigle finished second at the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Doubles Championships on Sunday, in Claremont, CA.

The Eagles' third-seeded pair advanced to the championship match earlier on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Courtney Chin and Laura Chen of Carnegie Mellon University.  It marked the second-straight appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship for McManigle, who finished second in the nation in 2010 with Zahra Dawson as her partner.

However, Clark and McManigle fell to fourth-seeded Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin of Amherst College in the title match, dropping the first set 6-4, before losing a hard-fought tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4) in the second set.

Clark and McManigle ended the season with a 19-5 record together in doubles play.

The second-place finish caps off an incredible career for McManigle, who will end her time with Emory as one of the best players in the program's history.  After capturing the NCAA Singles Championship in 2009 as a sophomore, she followed with back-to-back runner-up finishes in the NCAA doubles draw in 2010 and 2011.  During her career, she claimed the singles championship at the ITA Fall Regionals twice, and the doubles championship three times.  Her 90 career doubles wins tie her for the second-most in the program's history, and her 90-39 doubles record is good for a .698 winning percentage, the 18th-best mark in Emory history.  In addition, she compiled a 75-44 singles record, the seventh-most singles victories by an Eagle over a career.

With the NCAA Champions now decided, the 2011 season has been completed for the Eagles.
