Emory Women’s Tennis Announces 2011 Team Awards

Emory University women’s tennis head coach Amy Bryant announced the team’s award winners from the 2011 spring season.  In addition, the Eagles voted rising senior Zahra Dawson the team’s captain for the 2011-12 campaign.

Most Valuable Player: Gabrielle Clark
Rookie of the Year: Gabrielle Clark
Most Improved Player: Brenna Kelly
Sportsmanship Award: Laura Callava
Coach’s Award: Laura Callava
Academic Award: Laura Callava, Zahra Dawson, Lorne McManigle
20 Match Winners: Gabrielle Clark, Zahra Dawson, Jordan Wylie and Malavika Padmanabhan (singles); Malavika Padmanabhan and Brenna Kelly (doubles)

The team votes for the winner of the Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, and Sportsmanship Awards, while the Coach’s Award is selected by the Eagles’ coaching staff.  The All-Academic award is presented to any player with a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the spring season.

The Eagles finished third at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, and ended the year with a 23-5 record.
