The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked third among NCAA Division III teams, will travel to Washington University in St. Louis for the 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, from Friday, April 22nd – Sunday, April 24th.

Emory will enter the highly-competitive field as the top-seeded team, and will face eighth-seeded New York University on Friday at 9:00 AM.  NYU will begin play at the tournament with a 1-8 overall record this season.

Should the Eagles win, they will face the victor of the first-round match between fourth-seeded Washington University (Mo.) and the fifth-seeded University of Rochester on Saturday at 1:30 PM.  Other first-round matches include the second-seeded University of Chicago against seventh-seeded Case Western Reserve University, and third-seeded Carnegie Mellon University against sixth-seeded Brandeis University.

Besides Emory, other nationally-ranked teams participating include Chicago (fourth), Carnegie Mellon (11th), and Washington (15th).  Included in the field are 15 regionally-ranked singles players and eight regionally-ranked doubles pairings.

The Eagles won each of the first 22 UAA Championships, before losing in the conference tournament for the first time last season, falling to the University of Chicago 5-3 in the 2010 championship match.

Emory has a 16-4 overall record this season, including a 12-1 record against NCAA Division III teams, and a 10-1 record against ranked D-III opponents.  The Eagles feature the Atlantic South Region’s top-ranked singles player in Gabrielle Clark, along with third-ranked Jordan Wylie, 11th-ranked Lorne McManigle, and 12th-ranked Zahra Dawson.  McManigle and Clark also combine for the region’s fifth-ranked doubles squad, while Dawson and Wylie are ranked sixth in the region.

All of the matches during the tournament are scheduled to be held at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, MO.
