The third-ranked Emory University women’s tennis team defeated Agnes Scott College 5-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships, advancing to Saturday’s third round in Sewanee, TN, where the Eagles will face the 18th-ranked University of the South.

The Eagles quickly swept through doubles play, with Gabrielle Clark and Lorne McManigle winning 8-0 in first doubles, and Malavika Padmanabhan and Brenna Kelly claiming an 8-0 win in second doubles.  In the third doubles match, Taylor Brandt and Lindsay Reidenbach earned an 8-1 win.

In singles play, Padmanabhan won 6-0, 6-0 in second singles, followed by a match-clinching 6-0, 6-1 win from Reidenbach in third singles.  Jordan Wylie was leading her first singles opponent 6-1, 3-0 when the match was completed, while the other three singles matches were not started.

On the other side of the draw, the University of the South capitalized on their home court advantage to upset 13th-ranked Washington University (Mo.) 5-0 in its second round match on Friday, advancing to face the Eagles in the third round on Saturday.

Saturday’s meeting will be the second of the season between Emory and Sewanee, after the Eagles defeated the Tigers 9-0 at the Woodruff P.E.
