The third-ranked Emory University women’s tennis team
picked up its third-straight victory Wednesday, defeating Georgia
Perimeter College 8-1 at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
Emory improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory, while Georgia
Perimeter dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
The Eagles started the match with a 2-0 lead, as Georgia Perimeter
was forced to default both its third doubles and sixth singles
matches. Emory would go on to sweep the doubles contests, as
junior Zahra Dawson and senior Lorne
McManigle earned an 8-5 win over Salma Dahbi and Maria
Casseres in the first singles match, and freshman Gabrielle
Clark and sophomore Jordan Wylie bested
Sadietou Mayou and Asia Boyd 8-1 in the second doubles match.
In singles play, Wylie earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Dhabi in the
first singles match, while Dawson claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over
Casseres in the third singles contest. Also earning victories
were freshman Malavika Padmanabhan in the fourth
singles match over Boyd (6-1, 6-1), and freshman Taylor
Brandt in the fifth singles match over Andreina Gomez
(6-0, 6-0). McManigle suffered the only loss of the match for
Emory, falling 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the second singles match.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday, March 4th,
as Emory will open the ITA National Indoor Championships in St.
Peter, MN against DePauw University at 12:30 PM.
