The third-ranked Emory University women's tennis team opened the 2011 UAA Championships in dominating fashion, shutting out New York University 9-0 in St. Louis, MO.

The shutout was the sixth of the season for the top-seeded Eagles, and their third in the last four matches.  Emory improved to 17-4 with the victory, while eighth-seeded NYU dropped to 1-9 with the loss.

Emory opened with a strong showing in doubles play, as both the pairings of Gabrielle Clark and Lorne McManigle in the first doubles match, and Zahra Dawson and Jordan Wylie in the second doubles match won by 8-0 scores.  Brenna Kelly and Malavika Padmanabhan earned an 8-1 win in third doubles.

The Eagles continued their success in singles play, where Wylie won the first singles match by a score of 7-5, 6-2, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win from McManigle in second singles.  Dawson claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win in third singles, and Padmanabhan earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the fourth match.  Rounding out the shutout, Lindsay Reidenbach won 6-3, 6-1 in fifth singles, and Laura Callava took home a 6-3, 6-0 win in sixth singles.

With the win, Emory will now advance to fast host school Washington University (Mo.) in the semifinal match, tomorrow at 2:30 PM EST.  The fourth-seeded and 15th-ranked Bears, 14-4 on the season, escaped the first round with a 5-4 win over the University of Rochester on Friday.
