Emory Women’s Tennis to Face Washington & Lee in NCAA Quarterfinals

The Emory University women's tennis team will kick off NCAA Division III Championship play in Claremont, CA on Tuesday at 12:00 PM EDT, as the third-ranked Eagles will play eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University in the quarterfinals.

There will be video of the matches available at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule.  Live statistics for the team matches will be available at http://webapps.cmc.edu/livescore/

Emory will enter play with a 21-4 record this season, including a 17-1 record against NCAA Division III opponents, and a 12-1 record against ranked D-III teams.   Washington & Lee has a record of 20-6 in 2011, including a 19-5 record against Division III opponents.

This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams, after Emory defeated Washington & Lee 8-1 on March 20th in Spartanburg, SC.  The Eagles claimed victories in all six singles matches, with their only loss coming in the first doubles contest.  Emory is 13-8 all time against the Generals.

Should the Eagles advance, they will face the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal match between top-ranked Amherst College and fifth-ranked Tufts University in the semifinals on Wednesday at 2:00 PM EDT.  On the other side of the draw on Tuesday, fourth-ranked Chicago will take on sixth-ranked Denison, while second-ranked Williams will take on 12th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The championship and third-place matches are scheduled for 1:00 PM EDT on Thursday.

Following the team competition, Emory's Gabrielle Clark and Jordan Wylie will be competing in the NCAA Division III Singles Championships, while Clark will team with Lorne McManigle in the doubles draw.  The draws for the individual championships will be released on the last day of the team championships.
