Gabrielle Clark

Sophomore Gabrielle Clark became the third player in the history of the Emory University women’s tennis program to win the singles draw at the NCAA Division III Championships.  Clark, seeded third in the tournament, upset top-seeded Lok-Sze Leung of Middlebury in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (1) in the championship match to claim the title.  She also claimed a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 win over Kristin Lim of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the semifinals, the reigning NCAA Champion and second-seeded player in the draw.  Teamed with Zahra Dawson in the NCAA doubles draw, the second-seeded duo advanced to the NCAA Championship match before losing to Laura Danzig and Gabby Devlin of Amherst in a third-set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3) to finish second in Division III.  Clark also helped Emory to finish third at the team championships, going 3-0 as the team’s first singles player and 2-1 as a member of the first doubles pairing during the team rounds.  During the six days of NCAA competition last week, Clark was a combined 8-0 in singles play, and 5-2 in doubles matches.  She finished the year with an overall singles record of 27-4, and a doubles record of 29-8.
