After a very successful first two days at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, the Eagles run in Mobile, Alabama came to an end on Saturday, as sophomore Gabrielle Clark fell in the singles championship match, and Clark and senior Zahra Dawson dropped the semifinal match of the 'Super Bowl' doubles draw.
In singles action, second-seeded Clark fell in the championship match of the Division III draw, losing to Lok Sze Leung of Middlebury College, 6-3, 6-2. The loss was just the third to a Division III opponent in Clark's career, all of which have come during tournament play.
Later in the day, Clark and Dawson fought back from a first set 6-3 loss to win the second set 6-3, and even their 'Super Bowl' semifinal against Oklahoma Christian University's Hermon Bhrane and Lucie Sipkova, the NAIA representatives. However, in the third and deciding set, the Eagles fell 6-2 to their counterparts, ending their tournament run.
Saturday's action concludes the 2011 Fall season for the Eagles. Emory will return to the courts for the start of the Spring season on February 12, 2012 against Auburn University – Montgomery.
