Second-Ranked Eagles Dominant in 9-0 Win over #10 DePauw

The Emory University women's tennis team continued its successful run, as the second-ranked Eagles bested 10th-ranked DePauw University 9-0, the squad's second-straight shutout win over a nationally-ranked opponent.

Emory, now 10-3 overall this season, has won 10 of its last 11 matches, including four of its last five against nationally-ranked NCAA Division III opponents.  DePauw dropped to 10-4 on the year with the loss.

Emory's first doubles team of sophomore Gabrielle Clark and senior Zahra Dawson opened the match with an 8-1 win over Kelly Gebert and Maggie MacPhail of DePauw.  The duo improved to 17-4 in doubles matches this season, and Dawson earned the 93 doubles victory of her career to move into a tie for second with her former partner, Lorne McManigle, for second on the school's all-time ledger.  She is just 11 double victories shy of former Eagle Mary Ellen Gordon's program record of 104 doubles wins.

Also in doubles play, sophomores Malavika Padmanabhan and Brenna Kelly bested Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall 8-6, improving to 10-1 this season.  Junior Jordan Wylie and sophomore Taylor Brandt claimed an 8-5 win over Julie Wittwer and Kaitlin Pickrel in the third match to improve to 2-0 on the year and complete Emory's doubles sweep.

The Eagles continued to roll in singles play, headlined by Clark's 6-2, 6-0 win over Gebert in the first match, her fifth-straight victory to raise her season ledger to 13-2.  Also winning in straight sets were Dawson in the third singles match (6-3, 6-2), Brandt in the fourth-singles contest (6-4, 6-3) and Kelly in the sixth singles match (6-2, 6-1).  Both Wylie in the second-singles match (6-0, 3-6, 10-4) and freshman Lauren Pinsky in the fifth-singles contest (4-6, 6-0, 10-1) utilized a third set to earn a victory.

Brandt raised her singles record to 13-2 as well, equaling Clark for the best singles record on the team.  Kelly is now 6-2, while Wylie and Dawson both stand at 10-5, and Pinsky 9-6.

Emory will play at the Division I University of Alabama – Birmingham on Tuesday, April 10th at 2:00 PM.
