The second-ranked Emory University women's tennis team will head to Altamonte Springs, FL this weekend in search of its second-straight conference title and 24th overall, as the Eagles will take part in the 25th-annual University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships from Friday through Sunday.
As is usually the case, competition at the UAA Championships will likely be intense, with five of the eight conference teams featured in the latest ITA National rankings, and seven of the eight teams appearing in the regional rankings. Along with second-ranked Emory, the UAA features fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, the sixth-ranked University of Chicago, 11th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis, and 20th-ranked Brandeis University. While not nationally ranked, Case Western Reserve University is ranked 10th in the Central Region, and the University of Rochester is ranked 14th in the Northeast Region.
Emory (13-4) will enter the tournament as the top seed, and open up play against eighth-seeded New York University (0-9) at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 27th. Should the Eagles win, they will face the winner of the match between fourth-seeded Washington (13-6) and fifth-seeded Brandeis (13-3) at 1:30 PM on Saturday.
On the other side of the draw, second-seeded Carnegie Mellon (15-3) will face seventh-seeded Case (17-4) and third-seeded Chicago (9-1) will take on sixth-seeded Rochester (8-4) in the first round on Friday, with the winners of each match facing each other in the semifinals on Saturday.
The UAA Championship and third-place matches are scheduled for 9:00 AM on Sunday.
All of the matches will be held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Results will be posted to the official tournament website and EmoryAthletics.com following the completion of each match.
