The Emory University women's tennis team, ranked second in Division III, defeated 11th-ranked Washington University (Mo.) 6-3 on Saturday to advance to the finals of the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Emory will face the third-seeded University of Chicago in the finals, which upset the second seed, Carnegie Mellon University, 8-1 on Saturday. The UAA Championship match will be on Sunday at 9:00 AM.
On Saturday against Wash U., the Eagles took two of the three doubles matches, getting an 8-3 win at first doubles from Gabrielle Clark and Zahra Dawson, and an 8-6 win from Brenna Kelly and Malavika Padmanabhan at second doubles.
In singles play, Jordan Wylie led the way with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the second match, and Emory rounded out the win with victories in each of the final three matches. Padmanabhan claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles, Kelly earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fifth singles, and Lauren Pinsky defeated her counterpart 6-0, 6-3 at sixth singles.
With the win, Emory improved to 15-4 on the season, dropping the Bears to 14-7 on the year in the process.
