Two Emory Singles Players and Two Doubles Pairings Selected to NCAA Championships

Two Emory Singles Players and Two Doubles Pairings Selected to NCAA Championships

Emory University sophomore Gabrielle Clark and junior Jordan Wylie were selected to compete in the singles draw at the 2012 NCAA Individual Division III Women's Tennis Championships, while both Clark and senior Zahra Dawson and sophomores Malavika Padmanabhan and Brenna Kelly were chosen for the doubles draw.

Emory was the only school to have two doubles teams selected to the Division III draw, and one of just eight Division III squads have two participants in the singles draw.

Clark, both a singles and doubles all-American in the spring and fall of 2011, will enter the NCAA Championships with a singles record of 17-4 this season, including a 16-3 record against Division III competition.  Last season, she advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA singles draw, and advanced to the finals of the ITA Small College Nationals in the fall of 2011.

Wylie will also be making her second-straight appearance in the NCAA singles draw, after finishing in the round of 16 last season to earn all-America honors.  She is 13-7 in singles play this season, including a 9-6 record during her spring campaign.

Clark and Dawson reached the 'Super Bowl' at the 2012 ITA Small College Nationals in the fall, after winning the Division III draw.  The duo claimed a victory at the ITA Regionals as well, going on to record a 22-6 record during the campaign, including a 14-5 mark during the dual-match season.  This is the second NCAA doubles appearance for Clark, who finished second in the 2011 doubles draw with Lorne McManigle.  Dawson finished as the national runner-up in the doubles draw with McManigle in 2010.

Padmanabhan and Kelly have gone 12-3 as Emory's second doubles pairing this spring, and hold an overall record of 14-3 in doubles play this season.  This is the duo's first career appearance in the NCAA Championship draw.

The field for the individual championships consists of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams.  The selection of teams and individuals for the championship is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The NCAA Division III singles and doubles championships will be held from May 24th -26th at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina, following the completion of the team championships earlier in the week.
