The fifth-ranked Emory University women's tennis opened play at the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships with a dominant performance on Saturday, defeating Methodist University 5-0 in the second round of the tournament at the Woodruff P.E. Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Emory raised its record to 16-5 on the campaign, while Methodist will end its season with a 22-4 mark.

The Eagles were able to complete a sweep of the doubles matches against the Monarchs.  The first match to finish was the third-doubles contest, as Jordan Wylie and Brenna Kelly shutout the Methodist pair of Kelli Shelton and Stacey Brooks, 8-0.  At first doubles, Emory's Gabrielle Clark and Zahra Dawson claimed an 8-0 win as well, besting Katherine Meindl and Laura Baker.  Brenna Kelly and Malavika Padmanabhan completed the doubles sweep for the Eagles, defeating Dana Powell and Rachel Purser 8-1.

Lauren Pinksky claimed the first singles victory for the Eagles winning 6-0, 6-1, over Emily Talley to give Emory a 4-0 lead in the match.  Needing just one more win to seal the victory and advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, Clark obliged for Emory, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 over Meindl at first singles.

When the match was stopped after the final tally was decided, Wylie led Purser 6-0, 2-1, Dawson was on top of Baker 6-0, 2-1, and Padmanabhan led at fourth singles, 6-0 after one set.  The fifth singles match between Kelly and Shelton was not started.

Emory will advance to the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships on Sunday at noon, facing the winner of the second-round matchup between seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University (20-5) and Ohio Northern University at the Woodruff P.E. Center in Atlanta, GA.
