Emory, 17-5 on the 2012 campaign, will be making its 23rd appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals, and its fifth appearance in as many years.  The program has claimed the team championship on five occasions – 1996, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 – and has finished third or better 11 times.  The Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University in the third round of the tournament.

The Eagles feature regionally top-ranked singles player Gabrielle Clark, along with ninth-ranked Jordan Wylie, 20th-ranked Zahra Dawson and 22nd-ranked Malavika Padmanabhan.  Emory also has the region's top-ranked doubles duo in Dawson and Clark, and the fifth-ranked pairing in Padmanabhan and Brenna Kelly.

Bowdoin will enter the match with an overall record of 13-8, including a dramatic come-from behind 5-4 win over fourth-ranked Middlebury College in the third round of the tournament.  This is just the second appearance in the quarterfinals for the Polar Bears, who lost 5-3 to Pomona-Pitzer in their only other appearance in 2008.

The Polar Bears have the Northeast Region's fifth-ranked singles player in Kellen Alberstone and the 11th-ranked singles player in Kate Winingham.  In doubles action, Alberstone and Winingham are the third-ranked pairing in the region, while Emily Lombardi and Emma Chow are ranked 12th.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams in the history of the programs.

The winner of Monday's match will face the winner of the quarterfinals between top-ranked Williams College and ninth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the semifinals on Tuesday.  The quarterfinal matches on the other side of the draw include the second-ranked University of Chicago against 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins University, and sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University against third-ranked Amherst College.

The team championship and third-place matches will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd.  The individual tournament will follow the team championships, starting on Thursday, May 24th and continuing through Saturday, May 26th.  The 2012 NCAA Division III Championships are being hosted by Meredith College in Cary, North Carolina.
