Emory Men's and Women's Tennis Teams To Be Featured On CBS Spring Highlights Show

The Emory University men’s and women’s tennis programs will be featured on CBS when the network airs its NCAA Spring Championship Highlights Show this Sunday (June 17) at 4:00 p.m.  The telecast recaps NCAA Championships with an emphasis on Divisions II and III.

The men’s team brought home the program’s third national title in school history, opening with a 5-4 decision over Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals before pulling out a 5-4 triumph against Williams in the semifinals.  In the title match, the Eagles bested Kenyon College, 5-3, winding up the season with a perfect 25-0 record.

The women’s team finished third at the national championships, coming away with a 5-2 win against Bowdoin in the quarterfinals before falling to Williams, 5-3, in the semis.  In the battle for third place, the Eagles notched a 5-4 outcome against Amherst, winding up the year with a 19-6 overall record.

Emory enjoyed considerable success in the singles portion of the Championships with Dillon Pottish capturing the men’s crown and Gabrielle Clark the women’s title.  Both players were victorious in five matches in claiming their respective championships with Pottish defeating Nick Ballou of Cal Lutheran, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, and Clark upending Lok Sze Lueng of Middlebury, 6-2, 7-6.   It marked just the fourth time in NCAA Division III history that the men's and women's individual champion had come from the same school, with Emory now having figured in that on two occasions, the first coming in 2009 when Michael Goodwin and Lorne McManigle brought home the hardware.

This Sunday's telecast will be the first of two Spring Championships shows that the network will air.  The second one is slated to be run on Saturday, June 23, starting at 2:00 p.m.
