Gabrielle Clark

Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark won the NCAA Division III singles and doubles draws at the ITA Small College Nationals, becoming just the second player in school history to win both tournaments.  In the singles draw, top-seeded Clark dropped just three games in her first two matches, defeating Megan Tang of Chicago 6-1, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Meghan Buell of Washington and Lee 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the championship match.  In a rematch of last season’s NCAA Championship, Clark came from behind to best second-seeded Lok-Sze Leung of Middlebury in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.  Clark teamed with freshman Emma Taylor to win the doubles draw for the second-straight season, defeating Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall of DePauw 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Rebecca Curran and Kara Shoemaker of Williams 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-8 in the semifinals, and Buell and Claire Cahill of Washington & Lee 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.  Clark joined former Eagle Mary Ellen Gordon as the only two players to sweep both draws at the ITA Small College Nationals.  She later fell to Division II opponent Barbora Krtickova of Armstrong Atlantic in the singles draw of the ‘Super Bowl,’ and to Kritckova and Aleksandra Filipovski of Armstrong in the doubles draw.
