Gabrielle Clark

Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark led the third-ranked Eagles to their 24th University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in 26 years, with a perfect record as Emory’s first singles and first doubles player (teaming with freshman Annette Sullivan) during the conference tournament in Altamonte Spring, Florida last weekend.  During Thursday’s 9-0 win over New York University, Clark earned an 8-3 win in doubles action and a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles play.  In a 9-0 win over seventh-ranked Chicago on Friday, Clark defeated the top-ranked doubles team in the Central Region 8-3, and then downed the region’s top-ranked singles player in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. In the UAA Championship match on Saturday, the junior bested the Atlantic South’s fourth-ranked doubles pairing 8-1, and the third-ranked singles player 6-4, 6-0, leading Emory to a 9-0 win over 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon.  Clark, the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region, improved to 24-6 this season, and to 21-6 in doubles action, including a 12-3 mark with Sullivan, with whom she is the third-ranked pairing in the region.  Clark also moved into a tie for fifth-place in Emory history with 78 career singles wins, and seventh-place with 79 career doubles victories.  Clark and the Eagles improved to 13-4 this season with the three victories.
