Clark Named UAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark was named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Athlete of the Week for Women's Tennis for the fifth time this season, after leading the fourth-ranked Eagles to wins in the second and third rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships last weekend.

Clark went undefeated in each of her singles and doubles matches last weekend at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.  After a first-round bye, Clark led the Eagles to a 5-0 win over 21st-ranked Trinity University (Texas) on Saturday, claiming an 8-4 first doubles win with Annette Sullivan, and defeating Thavindra Ekanayake 6-2, 6-0 in the first singles match.  She followed that performance with an 8-3 first doubles win and a 6-1, 6-2, team-victory clinching win at first singles against Sewanee's Bronte Goodhue, as the Eagles defeated the Tigers 5-0 in the round of 16 on Sunday.

Clark is now 26-6 in singles action and 23-6 in doubles matches this season.  In addition, she earned the 80th singles victory of her career on Sunday to move into sole possession of fourth-place in school history.  The conference athlete of the week honor was the 12th of her career.

Clark and the Eagles, now 16-4 this season, will take on sixth-ranked Middlebury College in the quarterfinals on May 20th at 8:30 AM in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
