A day removed from a second-place at the team championships, all three Emory University participants remained alive in the 2013 NCAA Division III Individual Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with junior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Beatrice Rosen advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles draw, and Clark and freshman Annette Sullivan reaching the quarterfinals of the doubles tournament.

Clark, the reigning NCAA Singles Champion and third-seeded player in the tournament, claimed a 6-3, 6-0 win over DePauw's Maggie MacPhail in the round of 32, and advance to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor's Brittni Fausett in the round of 16. 

With the two victories on Thursday, Clark moved into sole possession of third place in school history with 83 singles wins over her career.  She is three wins behind former Eagle Zahra Dawson for third-place, and 32 wins behind Mary Ellen Gordon for the all-time school record.  She is now 29-6 in singles matches this season, the third-most singles wins in a campaign in Emory history.

Clark will now face Middlebury's Ria Gerger in the quarterfinals at 10:00 AM on Friday.  Should she win, she will take on the winner of the match between top-seeded Kristin Lim of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and sixth-seeded Sarah Woods of Kalamazoo in the semifinals on Friday at 1:30 PM.

Meanwhile, Rosen earned her spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Whittier's Maegan Zamilpa 6-0, 6-3 in the round of 32, and MIT's Lauren Quisenberry 0-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the round of 16.  Rosen, who now stands at 24-8 this season, will face fifth-seeded Jordan Brewer of Amherst in the quarterfinals.  Should she win, she will take on either Carnegie Mellon's Katie Cecil or Middlebury's Lok-Sze Leung, the tournament's second seed, in the semifinals.

In the doubles draw, Clark and Sullivan, the second-seeded duo, bested Faith Broderick and Carley Cooke of Brandeis in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.  Emory's pairing will face Samantha Chao and Kara Wang of Pomona-Pitzer in the quarterfinals at 4:00 PM on Friday.

By virtue of winning a match at the NCAA Individual Tournament, Clark, Rosen and Sullivan will each earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America honors for the spring season.  It marked the third-straight season that Clark has been named an All-American for both singles and doubles, while Rosen and Sullivan each claimed their first career all-America honors.
