Clark & Sullivan Advance to NCAA Doubles Semis

Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Annette Sullivan advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Doubles Championships with a quarterfinals victory over their opponents from Pomona-Pitzer College on Friday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Clark and Sullivan bested Pomona-Pitzer's Samantha Chao and Kara Wang in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3.  The Eagles' duo, seeded second in the doubles draw, improved to 19-3 this season with the victory, the pair's 10th-straight win.

Next up for the Eagles will be third-seeded Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin of Amherst College in the semifinals on Saturday at 11:00 AM.  Brewer and Devlin claimed the NCAA Doubles Championship in 2011, and Devlin teamed with Laura Danzig to win the title in 2012.

Should the Eagles win the semifinal match, they will play for the National Doubles Championship on Saturday at 1:00 PM.  Clark and Sullivan would face the winner of the other semifinal, between Kristin Lim and Caroline Ward of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Patricia Kirkland and Sonja Meighan of Washington and Lee University.

In singles action on Friday, Clark, the third seed, won her quarterfinal match over Middlebury's Ria Gerger, 6-1, 6-4, but fell to top-seeded Lim of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals, ending her bid to repeat as the NCAA Singles Champion.  Freshman Beatrice Rosen also suffered a loss in singles play on Friday, falling to fifth-seeded Brewer of Amherst, 6-2, 6-2.
