#2 Emory Aims for 25th UAA Women’s Tennis Championship

TOURNAMENT DRAW/ SCHEDULE

The Emory University Women's Tennis Team will have its eyes set on their 25th conference title in 27 years of competition, when the second-ranked Eagles travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida for the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships from Friday, April 25th – Sunday, April 27th.

Competition at the UAA Championships will feature some of the top teams in the country this season, with six of the eight teams in the draw currently ranked in the top-30 nationally, and three teams ranked in the top-10.  Seven of the eight team are currently regionally ranked, while 12 singles players and five doubles pairings scheduled to compete are regionally ranked.

All of the action at the UAA Championships will take place at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs for the third-consecutive season.  Fans unable to attend can follow the live action via updates through the UAA's live tennis twitter feed at http://twitter.com/uaatennis.  Full results and a recap of the Eagles' matches during the weekend will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com daily.

Emory will enter the UAA Championships as the winner of eight-straight matches, improving to 20-2 overall for the campaign.  The Eagles are 9-2 in matches away from home this season and 12-0 against Division III opposition, including a 7-0 record against nationally ranked Division III opponents and a 4-0 mark against teams currently ranked in the top-10 nationally.  Last year, the Eagles defeated New York University, the University of Chicago and Carnegie Mellon University en route to their 24th Association Title, failing to drop a match in any of the three contests.

The Eagles will be approaching a number of historical marks, entering the 2014 UAA Championships.  Emory is just four wins shy of the program's single-season record of 24, set during both the 2003 and 2004 campaigns.  Individually, senior Gabrielle Clark will begin the weekend with 102 doubles wins, just three shy of the program's all-time record, set by former Eagle Zahra Dawson.  She is also two wins shy of 200 total (singles and doubles together) for her career, and four singles wins shy of becoming just the second player in school history to reach the century mark in singles victories.  In addition, freshman Katarina Su will carry a 21-match winning streak into the UAA Championships, including a 15-0 mark in the spring season.

Emory will enter the draw as the top-seeded team, and will take on eighth-seeded New York University at 9:00 AM on Friday.  The unranked Violets stand at 1-6 on the season.  Emory is 10-0 all-time against NYU, including shutout wins during each of the last five UAA Championships.

Should the Eagles win, they will face the winner of the first-round match between fourth-seeded and nationally 12th-ranked Chicago and fifth-seeded and 22nd-ranked Brandeis on Saturday at 2:00 PM.  On the other side of the draw, second-seeded and eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon will play seventh-seeded Rochester and third-seeded and ninth-ranked Washington University (Mo.) will play sixth-seeded and 23rd-ranked Case Western Reserve.

The UAA Championship match will be on Sunday, April 27th at 9:00 AM.
