Clark & Satterfield Selected to Compete at NCAA Championships

Emory University senior Gabrielle Clark was selected to the field of 32 for the NCAA Division III Singles Championships, and will be joined by freshman Michelle Satterfield in the 16-pairing doubles draw, to be held in Claremont, California from May 22nd – 24th.

In addition, sophomore Beatrice Rosen was selected as an alternate to the singles draw.  Should a player from the Atlantic South Region drop out of the field, Rosen will fill the spot.

Clark will be making her fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA Singles draw, reaching at least as far as the quarterfinals in each of the last three years, and becoming the first African-American woman to win an NCAA Singles Championship during the 2012 tournament.  She is currently the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region with a 15-4 overall record this year, including a 10-0 mark against Division III opposition.

It will also be Clark's fourth appearance in the doubles draw, as the senior will be aiming for her first-career NCAA Division III Doubles title, after finishing second in both 2011 and 2012, and reaching the semifinals last year.  Satterfield and Clark, currently ranked second in doubles play in the Atlantic South Region, are 8-1 overall this season, including a 7-0 record against Division III opposition.

Prior to the start of the individual championships, the top-ranked Eagles will be aiming to win their first team title since 2006, and the sixth overall in the program's history.  After a first-round bye, Emory will open NCAA Tournament play at home at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 10th, facing the winner of Friday's match between Methodist and Berry.
