Emory's Clark & Satterfield Fall In NCAA D-III Women's Doubles Semis

Emory University senior Gabrielle Clark and freshman Michelle Satterfield saw their run in the NCAA Division III Women's Doubles Championship halted on Saturday afternoon when they came up short in the semifinals.   The No. 4-seeded Eagles tandem battled No. 2 seed and defending doubles titlists Gabby Devlin and Jordan Brewer from Amherst before dropping a three-set affair, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.

After Emory breezed through the first set, the teams split the opening four games of the second set.  The Lord Jeffs' team jumped ahead after winning games five and six and held Clark and Satterfield off to even the match at 1-1.

Amherst broke Emory in the opening game and then held in taking a 2-0 edge in the decisive third set.   Emory returned the favor, holding its serve before breaking the Jeffs to knot things up at 2-2.  Clark and Satterfield then jumped ahead, 3-2, only to see Devlin and Brewer to win three straight games, including a break in the seventh, in securing a 5-3 advantage.  The Eagles' duo stayed alive by holding their serve, but Devlin and Brewer, a two-time doubles NCAA champion during their careers, closed it out the following game.

Clark and Satterfield finished out the campaign with a 14-3 won-lost mark.   Clark turned in a 25-9 effort in doubles action this year, and finished her career as the program's all-time leader with 111 doubles triumphs.
