Bryant Announces Incoming Freshman Class for Emory Women’s Tennis

Emory University Head Coach Amy Bryant has announced the addition of four players to the Women's Tennis Team – Julie Fowler, Anna Fuhr, Bridget Harding and Anita Safronenka – who are slated to join the reigning National Champions as freshmen during the 2014-15 campaign.

"I'm very excited for this recruiting class," said Bryant.  "Their talent level will continue to fuel the competitive drive of the team, and make it better."

Fowler is the only in-state recruit of the group, hailing from Atlanta, where she recently graduated from the Westminster Schools after spending four years as the program's No. 1 singles player.  Currently the 165th-ranked player nationally and 15th in the state on the Babolat Recruiting List, she is rated a four-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net.  Fowler has a 16-12 overall record, including a 12-1 mark against three-star recruits or lower.

Fuhr is from Richmond, Virginia, where she attended the Steward School.  The four-star recruit is currently ranked third in the state, 28th in the Middle Atlantic and 176th nationally on the Babolat recruiting list.  She has a 15-20 overall record, including an 8-0 record against recruits rated three-stars or lower.

Harding is a four-star recruit from Northport, New York, where she attended Northport High School.  She has been ranked as high as 155th on the Babolat national recruiting list during the 2014 season.

Safronenka is an unrated international player from Belarus.  She has been training at the IMG Pendleton School in Bradenton, Florida, and has a 6-8 record this year, including a win over a five-star recruit earlier in the season.

The Eagles won the NCAA Division III Championship in 2014, making the program's first National Title since 2006 and its sixth overall.  Emory won a program-record 28 games during the year, finishing the campaign with an undefeated record against Division III opponents, and claimed its 25th University Athletic Association Championship in 27 years of conference competition.
