Eagles Open Play at Georgia Southern Invite

The Emory University Women's Tennis Team opened play at the three-day Georgia Southern Invite on Friday, going a combined 6-1 in singles matches during the first day of competition.

In the 1A singles draw, both junior Beatrice Rosen and sophomore Katarina Su advanced to the semifinals, with Rosen earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Presbyterian College's Brittany Nuttall, and Su claiming a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Presbyterian's Greer Ransom.  A pair of Eagles also advanced in the 2A singles draw, as freshman Julie Fowler bested Karina Rovira of the Savannah College of Art and Design 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Bridget Harding picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Demi Henschel of Presbyterian.  Adding on singles victories for Emory on Friday were freshman Anna Fuhr, 6-3, 6-4 over Presbyterian's Sarah McBride in the 2B singles draw, and junior Marissa Levine, 6-2, 6-0 over Georgia Southern College's Tiffany Williams.

Sophomore Melissa Goodman suffered the Eagles' only singles loss of the day, falling 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the 1B singles draw.

Emory had just one doubles result before play was stopped due to rain, as the pairing of sophomore Michelle Satterfield and Harding fell 8-6 in their first round match.

Action will continue at the Georgia Southern Invite in Statesboro, Georgia throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.
