Rosen Reaches Semifinals at USTA/ ITA Small College Nationals

Emory University junior Beatrice Rosen opened play at the USTA/ ITA Small College Nationals in Sumter, South Carolina on Thursday morning with a three-set win to reach the semifinals of the singles draw.

Rosen was the lone seeded player to advance in the Division III women's singles draw on Thursday, as she battled her way to come from behind and defeat Rebecca Ho of Washington University (Mo.) in three sets, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1.  Rosen, seeded fourth in the draw, will now face Ashnaa Rao of Johns Hopkins University in the semifinals at 10:30 AM on Friday, after Rao defeated top-seeded Caroline Ward of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first round.

On the other side of the singles draw, unseeded Kate Christensen of Vassar will face off against unseeded Megan Humphreys of UW-Whitewater.  The winners of the two semifinal matches will play on Saturday at 8:30 AM to determine the winner of the D-III draw, with players who fall in the semifinal contests meeting in the third-place match, also at 8:30 AM on Saturday.

In doubles action, Emory's duo of sophomore Katarina Su and freshman Anna Fuhr, seeded fourth in the draw, dropped a three-set decision to unseeded Emma Chow and Tess Trinka of Bowdoin College.  After winning the first set 6-2, Su and Fuhr fell 6-4 in the second set, and dropped the tiebreaker 10-7.

Su and Fuhr will take on unseeded Bridgid McGuire and Alicia Beck in the consolation round at 5:00 PM on Friday, and then wrap up doubles play with either the fifth- or seventh-place match on Friday at 3:00 PM.
