#1 Emory Shutout by D-I Chattanooga in Season Opener

The Emory University Women's Tennis Team suffered a 7-0 setback to the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, an NCAA Division I program, in its opening match of the 2015 campaign on Saturday evening in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Eagles dropped all three of the doubles matches, with the closest contest coming at second doubles, where junior Beatrice Rosen and sophomore Melissa Goodman dropped a 6-1 tiebreak to Kaylene Chadwell and Kelsey Coots, to fall in the match by a 7-6 score.  At first doubles, freshman Anna Fuhr and sophomore Katarina Su dropped a 6-3 decision, to Samantha Caswell and Kayla Jones, while junior Madison Gordon and sophomore Michelle DeMeo suffered a 6-1 loss to Rachele Gazzola and Katie Polk at third doubles.

In singles action, Su dropped a pair of hard-fought tiebreakers to fall 7-6, 7-6 to Chadwell in the second match.  Other singles scores included Rosen falling 6-1, 6-1 to Jones in the first contest, a 6-4, 6-1 defeat for freshman Bridget Harding against Coots in the third match, Goodman falling 6-3, 6-4 to Caswell at fourth singles, junior Marissa Levine dropping a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Claire Mulyadi, and freshman Julie Fowler suffering a 6-2, 6-3 setback to Alison Storie at sixth singles.

The Mocs raised their season ledger to 4-0 with the victory on Saturday.

Emory, now 0-1 on the campaign, will head to Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia for a 2:00 pm meeting with the Golden Tigers next Saturday, February 14th.
