Top-Ranked Emory Falls to D-I Charleston Southern, 5-2

The Emory University Eagles, ranked first in Division III, suffered just their second setback of the 2015 spring campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 to the NCAA Division I Charleston Southern University Buccaneers. 

The loss ended a five-match winning streak for the Eagles, who dropped to 5-2 overall for the season.  Both of the Eagles' losses this year have come against Division I opponents.  Charleston Southern improved to 4-1 with the victory.

Emory's two wins on the day both came in singles play.  In the fourth singles match, sophomore Melissa Goodman earned a three-set win over her opponent, Mi'Kola Cooper, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.  Freshman Bridget Harding also claimed a three-set win, defeating Valeria Koussenkova 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the fifth singles contest.

The Eagles will be off until Monday, March 9th, when the squad begins four-match West Coast trip against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 7:00 pm ET.
