#2 Women’s Tennis Ends Road Trip with 5-4 Win at #5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

In an early-season meeting between two of the top five ranked teams in NCAA Division III Women's Tennis, the second-ranked Emory University Eagles edged fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 5-4 in Claremont, California on Friday evening.

The Eagles battled back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles action, with the team's only point coming from an 8-5 win at second doubles junior Beatrice Rosen and sophomore Melissa Goodman.  It marked the duo's fourth win of the road trip, as the pair improved to 12-3 together this season.

Singles play would prove to be more favorable for Emory, with the Eagles picking up wins in four of the six matches to clinch the team win on the road.  Rosen and Goodman earned wins in singles play as well, with the former claiming a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the first match, and the latter earning a 6-3, 6-3 win in the fourth match.  At sixth singles, junior Madison Gordon picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory, and sophomore Katarina Su clinched the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win at third singles.

Emory improved to 9-2 on the season with the win, including wins in all four of its matches on its West Coast trip this week.  The loss was the first of the season for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which dropped to 8-1 for the campaign.

The Eagles will be back in action at the Fab 5 Tournament in Lexington, Virginia on Friday, March 27th, opening play at the event against host Washington and Lee University.
