#1 Women’s Tennis Falls to #3 Williams on Saturday

In a meeting of two of the top-three NCAA Division III teams this season, and the combined owners of 13 of the last 14 NCAA Championships, the top-ranked Emory University Eagles suffered a 6-3 loss to third-ranked Williams College at the Fab 5 Tournament in Lexington, Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

Emory fell behind in doubles play on Saturday, with the team's only doubles point coming from a win in the third match from sophomore Katarina Su and freshman Bridget Harding, 8-4 over Rebecca Curran and Maya Hart.

Harding would go on to claim a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Julia Cancio in the fifth singles match as well.  However, Emory's only other singles victory would come in the sixth match from senior Madison Gordon, who came from behind to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 over Mia Gancayco to give Emory its third and final point of the match.

Emory dropped to 10-3 on the year with the loss, while Williams improved to 7-0.  It was the first loss by Emory to an NCAA Division III opponent since falling to the Ephs in the 2013 National Championship match, ending a streak of 27-straight wins.

Emory will wrap-up play in Lexington against DePauw University, ranked 14th in Division III, at 9:00 am on Sunday, March 29th.
