No. 2 Eagles Advance to UAA Championship Match with 9-0 Win over Chicago

Second-ranked Emory University advanced to the University Athletic Association Championship match for the 28th-time in as many years of conference competition, as the top-seeded Eagles defeated nationally 15th-ranked and the fourth-seeded University of Chicago 9-0 in the UAA Semifinals on Friday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Emory will be aiming for its third-straight UAA Title and its 26th in the last 28 years when it takes on second-seeded and nationally seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in UAA Championship match on Saturday at 9:00 am in Altamonte Springs.  The Tartans improved to 15-5 on the season after defeating third-seeded and 11th-ranked Washington University (Mo.) 5-4 in the other semifinal match on Friday.

The Eagles, who improved to 15-3 overall on the season, shutout their opponent for the second-straight match at the UAA Championships, after opening play with a 9-0 win over New York University in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Emory was dominant in all three doubles matches, with freshman Anna Fuhr and sophomore Michelle Satterfield defeating Ariana Iranpour and Megan Tang 8-2 in the first contest, sophomore Katarina Su and freshman Bridget Harding downing Tiffany Chen and Courtney Warren 8-2 at no. 2 doubles, and senior Rebecca Siegler and sophomore Melissa Goodman handing Sruthi Ramaswami and Lucy Tang an 8-1 loss at third doubles.

Emory continued to play well in singles, with junior Beatrice Rosen picking up the win at first singles 7-5, 6-4 over Iranpour, followed by a three-set victory from Satterfield, 5-7, 6-1, 10-3 over Megan Tang at second singles.  Goodman defeated Jasmine Lee 6-1, 6-0 at third singles, with Su beating Chen in the fourth singles match 6-2, 6-2.  Rounding out the victory, Harding picked up a 6-2, 6-0 fifth singles win over Lucy Tang and junior Madison Gordon earned a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles.

The Eagles are 12-1 all-time against Carnegie Mellon, with the team's only loss to the Tartans coming during the 2009 ITA Indoor Championships.  The teams have met in each of the last two UAA Championships, with Emory defeating Carnegie Mellon 9-0 in 2013, and 8-1 last season.

Results and a recap of tomorrow's match will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com following the completion of play.
