#2 Women’s Tennis Aims to Defend NCAA Title in Mason, Ohio

The Emory University women's tennis team will head to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio to compete in the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern University from May 18th – 20th.

The Eagles, ranked second in Division III, will open up play in the quarterfinals against sixth-ranked Middlebury College on Monday, May 18th at 11:00 am.  The winner of Monday's match will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner between third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday, May 19th at 11:00 am.

On the other side of the draw, top-ranked Williams College will play 14th-ranked DePauw University, and seventh-ranked Amherst College will take on 13th-ranked MIT.  Both of those matches will take place at 8:00 am on Monday, with the winners advancing to the other semifinal match at 11:00 am on Tuesday.

The National Championship match will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, with the third-place match beginning slightly earlier at 10:00 am.

Emory, 18-3 overall this season, will enter the quarterfinals as winners of eight-consecutive matches, dating back to March 29th.  The Eagles are 15-1 this season against Division III opponents, including marks of 10-1 against nationally-ranked teams and 7-1 against teams currently ranked in the top-10 nationally.  The Eagles' lineup features five singles players ranked in the Atlantic South Region, including second-ranked junior Beatrice Rosen, seventh-ranked sophomore Michelle Satterfield, 14th-ranked sophomore Melissa Goodman, 17th-ranked sophomore Katarina Su and 24th-ranked freshman Bridget Harding.  In addition, freshman Anna Fuhr and Satterfield are the fourth-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic South Region, while Goodman and Rosen are the eighth-ranked pairing.

Emory is 71-32 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches, including a 54-10 mark under Head Coach Amy Bryant.  This marks the 25th NCAA Quarterfinal appearance in the program's history and the team's eighth-straight appearance.  The Eagles are 14-10 all-time in NCAA Quarterfinal matches, including wins in each of their last six appearances and 12 of their last 13.

Middlebury advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-4 win over eighth-ranked Bowdoin College in the round of 16.  The Panthers are 11-6 overall on the season, including an 11-4 mark against Division III opposition this season.  The team's lineup features three singles players ranked in the Northeast Region, including Ria Gerger (fourth), Alexandra Fields (15th) and Lily Bondy (21sr), in addition to the region's fourth-ranked doubles pairing of Bondy and Gerger.

Emory is 7-1 all-time against Middlebury, including a 9-0 win during the teams' last meeting during the 2014 campaign.  This will be the second NCAA matchup ever between the two teams, with the Eagles defeating the Panthers 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the 2013 NCAA Championships.

Following the conclusion of the team championships, the NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships will also be held in Mason, Ohio, starting on Thursday, May 21st.  Satterfield is currently slated to compete in the singles draw, and will be joined by Fuhr in the doubles contest.  The seeds and draws for both singles and doubles will be released on Wednesday.
