#1 Emory Set for Three Top-20 Matchups at Middlebury

The #1-ranked Emory University women's tennis team heads to Middlebury, VT for three matches against top-20 foes in the final tune up before next weekend's UAA Championships in Orlando, FL.

The Eagles will take on #7 Middlebury on Friday afternoon before facing #19 Skidmore at 3:00 PM on Saturday. Emory will then close out the weekend with a meeting with #4 Bowdoin Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.

Emory saw its season-long nine match win streak snapped last weekend with a loss at Division I Charleston Southern but the Eagles were able to rebound the next time out, taking down another Division I opponent in Coastal Carolina 4-1, to improve to 18-3 overall on the season. Emory is now 3-3 against Division I competition this year and are a perfect 12-0 against Division III schools.

Senior Madison Gordon continued to roll, going 2-0 at no.6 singles for the Eagles, and has now won 12 straight singles matches to run her season win-loss record to 18-2. Classmate Beatrice Rosen also went 2-0 on the no.4 singles line for Emory this past weekend against Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. Rosen has now won seven singles matches in a row and sits at 12-3 during her senior season. For the year, Emory owns an impressive singles matches record of 95-25 in dual matches, good for a .792 winning percentage.

In doubles, junior Katarina Su and sophomore Bridget Harding have rattled off seven straight wins together, including a 6-0 mark on the no.2 doubles court, and are now 15-6 for the season. The Eagles, as a team, are 44-16 in doubles during dual matches for a .733 winning percentage.

#7 Middlebury Panthers

Middlebury comes into Friday's match having lost three of their last four, falling to Pomona-Pitzer, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Williams before edging out Tufts, 5-4, their last time on the court. Overall, the Panthers come into play 6-3 on the season. Lily Bondy leads the team with 13 singles victories including a 5-2 mark on the no.3 singles court. Bondy is one of three Panthers with double-digit singles wins along with Christina Puccinelli who is 11-4 and is 6-1 on the no.4 singles line and Lauren Amos who is 10-4 on the year with a 4-2 combined record in no.5 and no.6 singles matches. In doubles, Middlebury's no.2 doubles team of Bondy and Sadie Shackelford has complied a team-best seven victories and is 6-3 during dual matches.

Emory leads the all-time series with Panthers, going 8-1 in the previous nine meetings and have won four straight. Last season, the Eagles defeated Middlebury 5-1 in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

#19 Skidmore Thoroughbreds

The Thoroughbreds enter the weekend 8-5 on the season, have won three of their last four, and will face Bowdoin on Friday afternoon before playing the Eagles on Saturday. Skidmore is led by Madie Benn at the no.1 singles position. Benn is 4-6 on the year but has won two straight no.1 singles points against NYU and The College of New Jersey. Erica Meno has claimed a team-best 13 singles victories and is 7-6 in dual matches. Benn and Michelle Fuca combine to form the Thoroughbreds no.1 doubles team as the duo is 15-7 on the year with a 7-4 mark in dual matches on the no.1 doubles court.

This is will mark the first meeting between Emory and Skidmore since 1999 and just the fourth in the all-time series. The Thoroughbreds lead the series 2-1 and have taken the last two from the Eagles.

#4 Bowdoin Polar Bears

The Polar Bears are 10-2 on the season and just saw their six-match winning streak snapped on Sunday, falling to Amherst 6-3. They will play Skidmore on Friday followed by Middlebury on Saturday before Sunday's meeting with the Eagles. At the no.1 singles position, Joulia Likhanskaia is 8-3 in her previous 11 matches and has lost just once in her last seven times taking the court. Kyra Silitch is 10-1 for Bowdoin at the no.4 singles position and just had her 10-match winning streak snapped against Amherst. In doubles action, the Polar Bears feature a formidable pair at the no.1 doubles position in Likhanskaia and Tiffany Chang. The duo is 10-2 in the dual match portion of their schedule and have won three straight matches.

This will be the fifth meeting between Emory and Bowdoin with the teams meeting once per year since 2012. The Eagles have won all four previous meetings and were victorious 6-3 in last season's match held at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
